Module 1 overview
What you're about to learn
This module is short. The lessons are only 45 minutes total. But what you're about to do in the next hour will save you weeks of wasted effort.
Here's the problem: most people start learning automation tools — Airtable, Zapier, whatever — before they've figured out what they're actually building. They watch a few tutorials, build a few sample automations, feel good about it, and then… nothing changes in their actual business. The tutorials don't connect to their real workflows. The sample projects aren't their projects.
This module fixes that. Before you touch a single tool, you're going to map your business — identify every automation opportunity, rank them by actual time cost, and build a prioritized list you'll work through for the rest of the course.
You'll leave this module with:
- A complete list of every workflow that could be automated
- A 2×2 opportunity map showing where your time is best spent
- A ranked priority list with complexity scores and target dates
- Your first automation target — picked and ready to build
This is not optional prep work. This IS the work.
How this module is structured
| Lesson | What you'll do | Time |
|--------|---------------|------|
| **What are no-code tools?** | Understand the automation stack — Airtable and Zapier — before you build anything | 10 min |
| **Identify your highest-cost workflows** | Find every manual process that costs you time | 12 min |
| **Map the automation opportunity** | Plot those workflows on a 2×2 grid to find the quick wins | 20 min |
| **Build your automation priority list** | Turn the map into a ranked, actionable list | 15 min |
How to move through this module
Work through the lessons in order. Each one feeds into the next — you can't skip to building your priority list without first identifying and mapping your workflows.
Take notes. Not notes about what the tools do — notes about your own business. The workflow audit worksheet is the most important artifact you'll create in this entire course.
When you see "Your assignment" at the end of each lesson, do it before moving on. These aren't optional exercises. They're the actual output of the module.
A note on the tools
This course teaches **Airtable** and **Zapier**. You don't need to set them up yet — we'll get to that in Module 2. For now, just focus on understanding your business. The tools don't matter until you know what you're building.
If you've already tried building automations and felt lost, this module will show you why: you were building before mapping. Fix the foundation, and everything after gets easier.
